The Yellowstone Association, in partnership with the National Park Service, fosters the public’s understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of Yellowstone National Park and its surrounding ecosystem by funding and providing educational products and services.

$15,091,004 since inception; $3,019,568 in cash and in-kind support in 2006
A large portion of financial support in recent years is being used to produce geology exhibits and a film for the Canyon Visitor Education Center.

Governed by
Board of Trustees. Board consists of sixteen business and community leaders from across the United States.  Board members serve without pay; each board member pays his/her own expenses to attend semi-annual meetings and committee meetings.


Professional Staff
Twenty-one year-round paid staff members; approximately forty additional paid summer seasonal staff members.

Yellowstone Association Educational Programs and Services

Membership Program
Number of members: Over 26,000

Membership dues: Memberships start at $35 per year. The membership program supports educational efforts in Yellowstone National Park.


Membership benefits:

Yellowstone Association Institute
Number of classes: Over 400 courses, seminars and guided educational trips per year
Number of participants: Approximately 5,000 per year
Average length of class: Two to five days
Average cost of class: Field seminar tuition averages $80-$100 per day for classes; simple cabins are available to participants for an additional $25 per night.  Lodging and Learning courses average $175 per day which includes instruction, some meals, and lodging in park hotels and course transportation.  Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover accepted for tuition and cabin fees.

Educational sales
In-park:  Eight sales areas in Yellowstone, including:  Old Faithful Visitor Center, Albright (Mammoth) Visitor Center, Norris Geyser Basin Museum, Canyon Visitor Education Center, Madison Information Station, West Thumb Information Station, Grant Visitor Center, and the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center.  Yellowstone Association sales areas are also in operation at the Forest Service office in Gardiner, Montana, and the Hebgen Lake Visitor Center (Forest Service) near West Yellowstone, Montana.
Mail order sales: The Yellowstone Association offers hundreds of Yellowstone-related educational items for sale by mail order.  Discounts are available to schools and libraries.  Orders may be placed by calling (toll free) 1-877-967-0090 or purchasing online at www.YellowstoneAssociation.org. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards are accepted for all purchases.
Annual sales: Yellowstone Association sales of educational materials totalled approximately $2.3 million in fiscal 2006.
