Yellowstone’s Winter Serengeti
March 21-23, 2011
#307
Limit: 12
Minimum Age: 16
Location: Lamar Buffalo Ranch
Instructors: Jim Garry, M.S.
Rates: $300 (member's fee $290)

Indulge yourself with a winter safari to the Serengeti of North America, the Lamar Valley, where the snow-covered landscape serves as a dramatic background for bison, elk, deer, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, fox, wolf, coyote, and river otter. Through observation, you’ll learn from the animals themselves what it means to survive winter in Yellowstone. In classroom and field sessions, you’ll learn more about their winter behaviors and adaptations, how they interact with other species, and basic winter ecology. Bring snowshoes for moderate forays on snow-packed trails.

Lodging at the Lamar Valley Buffalo Ranch is recommended for this course. You can book your cabin when you register.

Activity Level:  Hikes on snow-packed trails, or snowshoe or ski trips, up to 3 miles per day with climbs up to 250 feet.

Start: March 21 at 9 a.m.
End: March 23 at 4 p.m.
